The Newton baseball and softball teams traveled to Dallas Center-Grimes Wednesday and lost Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheaders to the ranked Mustang squads.

The Cardinals baseball team lost game one to Class 4A #15 Dallas Center-Grimes 11-1 in five innings, and suffered a four inning 15-2 setback in game two. Newton collected four hits in the opener with Lane Rozendaal leading the way with a double, a single, and an RBI. Derek Wermager added a triple, and Cade Bauer had a single. The Cardinals struggled defensively in the opener, committing two errors and walking seven batters. In game two, Newton had three hits, four walks, three hit batters, and had one batter reach on an error. The hits were all singles from Bauer, Creighton Andrew, and Kreytein Wickliffe. The Cardinals fell to 2-16 in conference play and 4-20 overall. 

The Newton softball team failed to score against the Class 4A #3 Mustangs, losing game one 10-0 in three innings, and dropping the second game 8-0. Chloe Swank had the Cardinals lone hit in the opener, while Newton gave up five stolen bases and committed four errors. In the nightcap, Ava Williams went two for two and Mack Sims and Swank also had hits for the Cardinals. The Mustangs swiped eight bases in the second game, and benefitted from two Newton errors. The Cardinals dropped to 2-15 in conference games and 6-17 overall. 

The Newton baseball team returns to action on Friday at Winterset, while the softball team also is back on the diamond Friday night at Des Moines East.
