The summer teams of Pella High School completed season sweeps of Oskaloosa, with the #2 in 3A Dutch winning 3-1 and softball girls winning 5-1 on senior night over the Indians, as heard live on the KRLS2 stream.
In the softball match up, Emma Eekhoff took the first at-bat for the green and white deep to take a 1-0 lead. The teams would trade zeros on the scoreboard until two Osky errors loaded the bases in the bottom of the 5th for Lucy Carlson, who proceeded to clean them up with her first varsity grand slam and home run in three seasons. While Oskaloosa would get an unearned run back in the top of the 6th, the Dutch would close the door with Saige DeJong in a scoreless 7th. Eekhoff finished with seven strikeouts in the circle.
Pella’s baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the 1st and held their advantage for the final six innings, fueled by a five-inning shutout performance by Nathan Carey, who pitched in his first two games since leaving the Indianola doubleheader in pain on May 28th.
The Dutch girls are now 15-10 overall and guaranteed at least a winning record and 4th place in the conference, heading to the Marshalltown tournament today. Pella’s baseball team wraps up the conference slate with a 2nd place finish, and are off until they host Mount Vernon on Monday.
