A grand re-opening celebration was held at the Pella Walmart on Friday following a lengthy renovation for the store. Employees were honored for years of service, including one who was among the first hired after the store opened in 1984. Several community organizations were given grants by Walmart, including the Pella Police Department’s Officers Association for Holiday Heroes, Pella Community Ambulance, Pella Historical Museums, Marion County Humane Society, and Lake View Camp. During the celebration, the Pella Fire Department had a display and American Legion Post 89 had a guard to display flags during a performance of the National Anthem. State Representative Barb Kniff McCulla spoke during the ceremony as well. The Pella Walmart has been renovated and updated, and remained open through the duration of the transition. Friday’s celebration also included several food trucks and beverage stands in the parking lot, with several mascots of famous brands in attendance as well.
