The Pella Christian summer sports teams begin the final week of regular season action tonight, with the baseball team hosting Grand View Christian and the softball team hosting North Mahaska.
The Eagles baseball team, which are looking to improve to 3-2 in their last five games, will get an early look at the Thunder ahead of their first round district matchup on Saturday. Grand View Christian enters tonight’s contest with a 13-10 overall record after improving to 3-2 in their last five games with a win over Perry on Monday night. Pella Christian and the Thunder have just one prior meeting on the baseball diamond, with Grand View Christian winning the matchup last season 11-0 in a Saturday matchup at Waterloo Riverfront Stadium.
On the softball diamond, the Eagles are looking to get back on track, after dropping four of the five games a week ago. In their efforts to bounce back, Pella Christian will look to knock off a North Mahaska squad that carries an 18-3 overall record and is 4-1 in their last five games. Tonight’s matchup between the Eagles and Warhawks is the sixth in the Bound era dating back to 2013. The all-time series is knotted up at 2-2, with North Mahaska winning the most recent complete game 16-7 back in 2018. The fifth meeting took place last year and the Eagles led the game 8-4 after the third inning, but lightning moved into the area and cancelled the game, which was not made up.
Tonight’s softball contest can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS at 6:45 pm, while the baseball game is scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
