The Residences senior housing development in Knoxville is starting construction this summer.
This project by Overland Group LLC is their first Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) development in Iowa. The Residence at Veterans Park is part of the expansive Veterans District, a 152-acre transformation of a former VA Hospital campus into a diverse housing community. Featuring 48 units (39 one-bedroom and 9 two-bedroom apartments), this building will include amenities such as an onsite leasing office, community room, fitness center, and dog walking park. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery tells KNIA News for years the City has identified that senior housing is a need in the community and this project is a step in the right direction.
“The studies that we have done have definitely confirmed the need in our community for senior housing. 300 plus units is what the study has shown and so 48 units is a good start but obviously not fully meeting that need, but I think it will fill fast. It will be a great new development not only for the Veterans District but overall the community and meeting those needs and the various housing requirements that a community desires.”
Also on this block will be a Hugerich Holdings LLC apartment building with market rate apartments and townhouses which will also start construction this summer.
