The new Knoxville public safety/city hall facility is continuing to move forward.

According to Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery, the city’s architect Wendel, is working through design development currently and they have proposed to present to the city council the updated design and cost estimates on July 21st.  Looking forward to the project schedule, the city would move from design development to construction documents in July-August and bidding would be in September with the plan for a late October construction start. The facility will be built off of Highway 14 at the site of the former Knoxville Middle School, which was demolished last year. The city acquired the land as part of a land swap with the Knoxville School District, which ensured that it would not affect tax payers.

As part of the land swap, the school district received approximately ten acres of land in the Veterans District which could be a potential site of a new elementary school.
