
The Newton Baseball Squad has not had much success this season, but found a lot of it in its game against PCM on Tuesday night in a 6-0 win heard live on kniakrls.com KRLS3. After a scoreless first two innings, the Cardinals broke through with two runs in the 3rd inning when Landry Rausch and Creighton Andrew in back-to-back at bats. Cade Bauer reached on a field’s choice which scored a run, then Mason Mendez brought home another run on a single. Newton would slam the door shut on the Mustangs with four more runs in the fourth and Dakota Winkleman did the rest pitching a one hit gem, walking two and striking out three. Isaac Bagby got PCM’s only hit in the 2nd inning. Carter Hansen took the loss going 5 innings striking out three. Newton is now 5-24 on the season and will travel to Clarke on Monday for a make up game. PCM is 7-12 and will host Knoxville tonight.
