In observance of Independence Day, Newton City Offices and Jasper County Offices will be closed for the holiday. In the City of Newton, Maytag Pool will be open July 4th from 1 to 5 p.m., while the closures include the Sanitary Landfill and the Public Library. The library will also be closed Saturday, July 5th. 

City Offices will be closed in all the other communities in Jasper County. In Baxter, Midwest Sanitation will be closed along with city offices, while garbage collection in Colfax is being pushed back from Friday to Saturday. In Prairie City, the yard debris site on South 88th Avenue West will be closed Friday, July 4th and Saturday, July 5th. To make up for the Saturday closure, the site will be open Saturday July 12th, from 9 a.m. to noon.
