
The Pleasantville baseball and softball teams both picked up non-conference road wins on Wednesday as the softball team defeated North Mahaska and the baseball team picked up a win against Chariton.
The Trojan softball team defeated the Warhawks 5-4 as the team was able to push two runs across in the sixth inning after a hit by Harper McGraw and a Clara Metcalf hit by pitch. Pleasantville was then able to get three runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead and hold off North Mahaska in the bottom of the seventh to put the game away. Ella Clark was walked and McGraw hit a double to score Clark while Taylor Perkins was then intentionally walked and Lilian Mason hit a single to score McGraw and tie the game up. Metcalf then got a base hit to put the Trojans on top 5-4 where they would seal the win.
Offensively the Trojans had nine hits as a team as McGraw had three hits in the contest and Mason and Clark both had two. The Pleasantville softball team finishes the regular season with an 18-8 overall record and will next compete on Wednesday in a Class 2A Regional game against Exira-EHK-Audubon.
The #2 ranked Pleasantville baseball team took down Chariton 3-0 in a game that was a rematch of last year’s opening round Class 2A state tournament contest. Brayden Kennedy got the win on the mound going five innings giving up no runs on three hits and had six strikeouts. Braylon Bingham then came in and got the save going two innings giving up one hit while picking up two strikeouts. At the plate Bingham had two hits, a home run, and a double with two RBI while William Mesecher had a double and Logan Roff, JJ Phillips, and Noah Rist all had hits.
The Pleasantville baseball team ends their regular season 27-1 and will next compete on Tuesday in the Class 2A Substate 6 quarterfinals against the winner of PCM and East Marshall.
