Ray Maxey began working as the new Director of the Jasper County Veterans Affairs Office on March 17th, and has been impressed by the local help and respect that’s extended to those who have served the country.

“The support from Jasper County for our veterans is amazing, it’s over the top. And we have one of the busiest offices in the state in terms of veterans affairs. ”

Over the past three and a half months that Maxey has been on the job, he’s noticed many Jasper County veterans are unaware of what assistance is available to them.

“A lot of people do not know what we offer as far as assistance. Getting that word out is one of the priorities I have here, and making sure people know that we are here and offer what we can offer.”

Maxey joined the Marine Corp at the age of 17, and served from 1983 through 2007. He then spent 13 years as a Marshalltown Police Officer, and says he enjoyed that about as much as he enjoyed being a Marine. He was chosen out of 19 applicants to be the new Director of the Jasper County Veterans Affairs Office. Hear more from Ray Maxey on today’s Let’s Talk Newton.
