The Newton baseball and softball teams are off until Monday, when they begin the final week before postseason action.
The baseball team has two more regular season games to play, both on the road. The Cardinals travel to Osceola Monday to take on Clarke, and will be in Des Moines Tuesday night to play Des Moines Christian. Newton’s baseball team has a record of 5-24, and they will begin postseason play next Friday at Clear Creek Amana. The Clippers are 18-11 overall, and the winner of that Class 3A Substate 6 game advances to play Cedar Rapids Xavier or Fort Madison.
The Cardinals softball team is 8-19, with one regular season game remaining. They will host Class 3A #4 PCM Monday at 7:30 p.m. for Senior Night. The postseason for the softball squad starts Thursday in Pella, in a Class 4A Region 5 game against the 18-12 Dutch. The team that advances will play at Carlisle on Saturday, July 12th.
