The Pella Christian baseball team struggled in their final tune-up ahead of postseason play Thursday night, dropping both ends of a doubleheader at West Marshall 11-1 in five innings and 6-3.

The Eagles fell behind early in the doubleheader, allowing seven unearned runs in the first two innings in the opening game in falling behind 8-1. The Trojans added another three runs in the third inning to end the scoring, before the game concluded via the run-rule in the fifth. Pella Christian game got off to a better start in the nightcap, scoring one run in the top of the first, but West Marshall answered back with two runs in the bottom of the frame. The Trojans built on their lead in the third inning with another four runs, and despite scoring single runs in the fourth and sixth innings, Pella Christian couldn’t mount a rally as they fell to 8-21 overall on the season.

Logan Gallaher was the lone Eagle to record multiple hits in the first game, going 2-2 with a pair of singles. Grant Kelderman, Ben Van Wyngarden, and Gallaher each went 2-4 in the second game, with Kelderman and Gallaher each recording an RBI. Brecken Ritzert also had multiple hits in the nightcap, going 2-3 with an RBI and a walk. Eliot Menninga suffered the game one loss on the mound for Pella Christian, while Grant Kelderman took the loss in game two.

The Eagles baseball team begins postseason play on Saturday, traveling to James W. Cownie Baseball Park for a rematch with Grand View Christian in the first round of the Class 2A Substate 6 tournament at 1 pm. Pella Christian hosted the Thunder on Tuesday and held on for a 10-9 win, and Saturday’s rematch can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS at 12:45 pm.
