Pella Police Captain Paul Haase reminds residents to use extra caution traveling near the community’s 4th of July celebration and to enjoy the festivities responsibly.
The Pella City Council changed the fireworks ordinance to align with a new state law, meaning the use of fireworks is allowed during the holiday. The code reads as:
“It shall be lawful for a person to use or explode consumer fireworks, display fireworks, or novelties, as defined in Iowa Code section 727.2, on private properties in the city limits only on the following days and times:
On July 3, between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
On July 4, between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.; and
On December 31, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. on the immediately following January 1.
A person shall not use or explode consumer fireworks, display fireworks, or novelties on any other day or at any other time than those permitted by this section.”
All City of Pella offices are closed today for the 4th of July holiday.
