After going 2-0 in the final week of the regular season, the Pella Christian softball team will welcome New London to Eagle Lane Monday night to open the Class 2A Region 2 tournament.

The Eagles enter postseason play after a resurgent regular season, in which they went 10-15 a year after going 1-20. To get to double-digit wins, Pella Christian won both of their games in the final week of the regular season, defeating North Mahaska 10-1 on Tuesday and Sigourney 5-3 on Wednesday. In addition to their two wins last week, the Eagles also won six games against teams in Classes 4A and 3A, earning those victories over Pella, Newton, Knoxville, Des Moines Christian and Oskaloosa.

On the other side of the diamond, New London enters the first round of the postseason looking to put the regular season in the rearview mirror. The Tigers come into the regional tournament with a 2-19 overall record, and are looking to halt a five game losing streak. The Eagles are hoping to use Monday’s first round matchup to begin a deep postseason run, and head coach Mindi Kacmarynski says that while she feels they can play with any team, they are focusing on the little things.

“We can be competitive with anybody, but that also I think still comes back to playing each pitch offensively and defensively. We just need to keep focused and do our job and we can play with anybody.”

Due to the Pella Christian baseball team’s first round matchup on the road at Grand View Christian being pushed back to Monday, coverage of the softball team’s first round postseason contest at home against New London will now be broadcast live on the KRLS2 stream at 6:45 pm.
