The Indianola City Council met in regular session Monday.

The council held a public hearing regarding the liquor license renewal application for I Towner Stop. The license renewal was up for review after allegations of multiple incidents where an employee was charged with assault with intent to commit sex abuse while working at the business. The Indianola Police Department recommended the renewal be denied, and the council denied the license unanimously. An appeal process is available through the state.

The council also discussed an agreement with Kiya Koda Humane Society, after funding was not included in the FY26 budget for animal control. The council discussed a possible notice to exit the contract with Kiya Koda, which is $54,000 a year, and the Indianola Police Department proposed a policy to capture unvaccinated dogs for rabies, are aggressive, or have bitten another person or animal, and will be working out a contract agreement with either the ARL or Kiya Koda. The council decided to postpone the issue until their next meeting to gain more information.

The council also approved a proposal to hire a Member Services Coordinator with the Indianola Wellness Campus, filling an open officer position in the Police Department, and the future of the joint fuel facility.
