
The Indianola baseball team reached 30 wins in a blowout victory over Creston Tuesday 12-1, while the Indianola softball team swept Des Moines East 16-6 in five innings and 12-1 in four innings heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The Indianola baseball team plated a run in each of the first two innings before exploding four nine runs in the third to take a commanding lead and ending the game early. Bryant Ritchie went 2-2 at the plate with a home run, while Andrew DeWall and Dallas Harlan each went 2-3. The Indians end the regular season with a record of 30-5, and will host Ankeny on Friday in the first round of substate plate.
The Indianola softball team fell behind 2-0 early to the Scarlets, but plated four in the bottom of the first which included a Sam Gripp two-RBI double to lead 4-2. East scored four unanswered runs going into the bottom of the fourth, when the Indians bats exploded for 12 runs to end the game early. Gripp drove in another two runs, and Dana Blake, Ashley Schultz, Ava Tichy, Tessa Gripp all drove in runs to end the game.
Game two was all Indianola, hitting five home runs in the dominant effort. Indianola plated eight runs in the second inning which included a three-run homer by Ava Tichy, a solo shot by Tessa Gripp, and a two-run homerun by Sully Downey to lead 8-0. The Scarlets earned a run back in the third, but the Indians earned a solo homer from Alexa Guyer to start the bottom of the fourth, then Sully Downey hit a three-run shot to walk it off for the early victory.
Head coach Stacy Evans said after the game the team is trying to clean things up both on the field and mentally over this week in order to enter postseason play at their best.
Indianola is now 21-13 on the season, and wraps up the regular season on the road at Ames tomorrow.
