The first of what the #2 in 3A Pella baseball team is hoping is six total postseason games opens tonight against Keokuk after heavy rain once again pummeled the Tulip City on Friday.

The Chiefs had arrived at Pella High School before lightning in the area was quickly followed by multiple rounds of heavy rainfall, moving the opening round of the substate playoffs to this evening.

Keokuk is 2-20 this summer season, with their second win coming in their most recent game on July 3rd, when they defeated Washington 5-4 — the same team the Dutch swept last week in a postseason tune-up doubleheader. The Dutch (24-6 overall) have not played against the Chiefs at least since 2009 in the Bound/QuikStats records. The Chiefs have allowed 10.6 runs per game this summer.

Pella’s baseball game can be watched on Pella Dutch Live, with opening pitch slated for 6:00 this evening.

The Dutch softball team will have their hands full with #6 in 4A Carlisle this evening. The Wildcats feature several unique traditions and routines, and rank among the most explosive teams in Class 4A, scoring 8.4 runs per game, stealing 206 bases this summer. The two teams have played four times in the Bound era, with Carlisle winning all of those matchups by at least seven runs per game.

Live coverage of Pella softball’s regional softball semifinals matchup can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, starting at 6:45 this evening in Carlisle.
