A brilliant performance on the mound by Teagan Hoekstra held the Fairfield bats in check as the #2 in 3A Pella baseball team advanced to the substate finals with a 6-0 win Monday, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The junior southpaw put together his best performance in a season otherwise plagued by injury, as Hoekstra checked in with a ten-strikeout, three-hit shut out in under 100 pitches thrown. It took awhile for his teammates to find offense, as the Dutch did score a single run in the 3rd inning thanks to a pair of hit batters and two wild pitches. Pella would not get a hit until an inning-ending double by Isaiah Kettler, as younger brother Owen was thrown out at home plate to end the 5th. But the Dutch found their second hit in the middle of more walks and hit batters, with Nathan Vande Lune finding critical insurance with a two-run, pinch-hit single as part of a five-run 6th inning.

Pella improves to 26-6 overall and hosts Clear Creek-Amana in the Class 3A Substate Finals this Wednesday. The Clippers and Dutch clashed in what became the season opener due to early season postponements, with the green and white winning on the road in a 10-2 game on May 21st.
