A new Jasper County Deputy with ties to Baxter has been assigned to be that community’s full-time patrol deputy. Troy Daehler was hired December 2nd, and will officially begin serving Baxter next month.  The agreement for a full-time patrol officer in the community goes until the end of June 2030. The City of Baxter will cover all the costs by paying Jasper County $130,416 for the first year. Baxter has also given the county the equipment used by the city’s prior police department. In the last year of the patrol contract, the City of Baxter’s annual cost will be $149,185.

Deputy Daehler grew up just outside of Newton, but says he spent much of his time in Baxter with close friends. His wife is a Baxter native. He joined the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department after a decade of working in the HVAC industry and volunteering as a firefighter.
