A Kellogg man has been sentenced on a reduced charge for kicking in the door of a Newton home October 29th and assaulting a woman. 39-year-old Rodney Matthew Savage accepted a plea agreement and has been given a suspended two year prison term, one year of probation, and an $855 fine. Newton police say he grabbed the alleged victim by the neck and arm before she was able to get away and call 911. Officers listed the woman’s injuries as a cut on her arm and marks on her neck. The assault occurred in the 400 block of East 21st Street South. Savage pleaded guilty to 3rd degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor. He was originally charged with 2nd degree burglary, a class C felony, and 3rd or subsequent offense domestic abuse assault, a class D felony.
