The Newton School Board has approved the purchase of materials for a 30’ by 60’ steel building for athletic and field maintenance equipment at H.A. Lynn Stadium. The building materials are being acquired from Menards for $24,571. Building and Grounds Supervisor Jack Suttek says with his staff acting as the general contractor, the school district will save a substantial amount of money.
“The concrete slab was awarded to Jerry Keenan. We are looking at getting that building done for $63,000. It would have cost us over $80,000 plus the concrete slab to have a contractor build that for us.
Suttek told the school board he is working with coaches to design the inside of the building and figure out what type of shelving and cages will be needed inside. The storage building will go up by the fence that’s by the lockerroom.
