Mainline paving on the second phase of resurfacing Jasper County Highway F-48 West from Newton to the Polk County line has been completed according to Jasper County’s Road Department. The three mile, second phase section from the bridge just south of Interstate 80 over the South Skunk River west of Newton to State Highway 117 in Colfax remains closed to thru traffic with the detour still in place. The County Road Department says guardrail, shoulder, sideroad paving, and pavement marking work still needs to be completed. It’s anticipated those items will be completed by August 15th, weather permitting. InRoads LLC of Des Moines was awarded that construction contract in November for $2.55 million. The first phase of the Highway F-48 resurfacing, from Newton to the South Skunk River bridge, was completed last August. The upcoming resurfacing of 5.3 miles from Colfax to Polk County is the third phase of resurfacing Highway F-48 West from the west edge of Newton to the Polk County line.
