Economic Development Contracts with Newton Development Corporation and Newton Housing Development Corporation highlight the agenda for this evening’s Newton City Council meeting. City staff is asking council members to approve a one year contract with Newton Development Corporation. It would require the organization to work with existing businesses to remain or expand on their current sites, maintain an inventory of available sites for development and redevelopment , and support business development initiatives that increase diversity of business types and workforce. The five year agreement proposed with Newton Housing Development Corporation includes providing the city housing advice and assistance based on the expertise of the Board of Directors, increasing the quality and quantity of all housing types, participating in and leading special projects associated with Workforce and Affordable Housing, and assisting with the development of other housing organizations. The Newton City Council will be discussing these proposed contracts and other matters at tonight’s 6 p.m. council meeting at City Hall.
