The PCM softball team will take on West Liberty tonight in the Class 3A State Tournament in Fort Dodge.
The #4 seeded Mustangs are 25-4 on the season and defeated Missouri Valley 13-5 in their regional final game last Tuesday. PCM trailed 5-1 in that game and stormed back for a run rule win. The Mustangs will now take on a 22-7 #5 seed West Liberty team who defeated West Marshall in their regional final. The Mustangs and Comets have never played in the Bound era but West Liberty did play two teams from PCM’s conference in their regional play in West Marshall and Roland-Story.
This is the Mustangs second consecutive trip to the state tournament as last year they lost their opening round game to Williamsburg but won a consolation game against Sumner-Fredericksburg. PCM Head Coach Shaun Hudnut says he is thankful for the support the community shows his team and he is hoping for a strong showing of Mustang fans in Fort Dodge.
“Our community support is fantastic in almost everything we do. We had a ton of people just like it was last year at the regional final and it creates quite a fun atmosphere to play in and so we’re very appreciative of that and our community support. It does really help that we get the 7:30 game at night so that makes it a lot easier for people to make the trip after work versus playing Tuesday during the day so we’re hoping with that 7:30 time slot that opens up the gate for a lot of our fans to get up there and hopefully we can put on a good show for them.”
Tonight’s state tournament quarterfinals game first pitch is scheduled for 7:30 pm and can be heard live on either 92.1 KRLS or the KRLS2 stream with pregame coverage starting at 7:15 pm.
