The Indianola City Council discussed animal control services at their meeting Monday, including a possible contract with the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. City Manager Jake Meshke tells KNIA News the city reached out to multiple entities to provide services to the city regarding animal control when the Indianola Police Department encountered a vicious dog or loose dog in the community.
“City staff and council did receive word from Kiya Koda that they were not interested in providing select services to the City of Indianola. Staff does continue to work towards an agreement with Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Next steps for us is going to take the council direction that was received last night, going ahead to pursue a contract with the Animal Rescue League, potentially a letter of intent as a gateway resolution. Then ultimately a policy that more clearly outlines our policy on how we handle animals.”
