With several key starters having extended spring postseason runs, the Pella Christian baseball team adopted a mentality of learning on the fly.

The Eagles baseball season began with their first game at Sigourney on May 21st, which was eight days before all of the spring sports concluded on the 29th. In that span, Pella Christian played five games and went 1-4. Once the spring sports athletes returned to the team, the Eagles spent most of May and early June trying to work through the challenges of minimal practice time and finding the right lineup combination. While he says that he wishes that more wins had come during those challenging times, head coach Chris Fynaardt says that the team handled the adversity well.

“Yeah, once we got the spring kids back, it was great that golf and soccer had extended postseasons and had the success that they did, but once you get those kids back, you’re on the fly and already into the season and it can be a challenge. You don’t get many practices during the week, so you’re relying on what kids know from previous seasons and you just do your best. We picked up some decent wins along the way and I think they did pretty well.”

Pella Christian finished the season with an 8-23 overall record and a 2-15 record in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
