The 10th top sports moment of Newton’s past school year was the boys golf team advancing to the District Meet on Wednesday, May 14th. The team earned the District spot by placing third at the Class 3A Sectional in Knoxville with a combined score of 329. Jackson Price turned in the best score for Newton, tying for 5th with a 77, but placed 6th based on the cardback tiebreaker. He said a recent switch to the putter his dad used to use helped his game.
“I knew I was leaving so much out there with my putter. I had that same putter, but it was a newer version, last year. I just felt I was more confident standing over putts and hitting my line. I think I did a very good job of that.”
Three Cardinals finished 16th through 18th as Mason Smith shot an 83, Lincoln Peterson had an 84, and Peyton Rozendaal recorded an 85. Carter Forst finished 28th with an 88, and Lane Rozendaal shot a 91 for 34th.
