
The countdown of Norwalk High School’s top 10 sports stories from the 2024-2025 school year begins today with the number 10 moment. During Week 8 of the football season, the Warriors traveled to Council Bluffs Lewis Central and knocked off the two-time defending Class 4A state champion Titans 21-7, highlighting an undefeated run to the 4A District 6 championship.
Following a 1-3 start to the season, Norwalk steadily improved during the middle portion of the schedule and went 5-0 in district play. The pinnacle of their title run was an impressive two-score victory at Lewis Central. Trailing 7-0 early, the Warriors rallied into the lead on James Hatlevig touchdown passes to Eli Robbins and Brady Schmitz. Then just before halftime, Robbins scored on a 95-yard pick 6 to make it 21-7, and the Warrior defense came up with more big stops in the second half to preserve the win.
Norwalk survived a tough challenge from Glenwood in Week 9 to finish 5-0 in the district. The Warrior defense held the opposition scoreless for 11 straight quarters during one stretch and totaled 23 takeaways on the season. The offense showed improved balance with 1,844 passing yards and 1,197 rushing yards. Norwalk lost to Cedar Rapids Xavier 35-14 in the first round of the 4A playoffs, finishing 6-4 overall.
