Our countdown of the top 10 moments at Pella Christian high school this past year takes across town, where the Eagles softball team jumpstarted a resurgent season with a dominant win over the eventual Class 4A State Champs.

After dropping a back-and-forth tilt 6-5 in the opening game at Pella High on June 6th, the Pella Christian bats caught fire in the nightcap of the conference doubleheader. Coming off a scoreless first inning, the 1-7 Eagles erupted for 11 runs in the top of the second inning, starting with a Laurel Roozeboom RBI single to plate older sister Brynn. Two batters later, Maddy Van Zee singled Laurel home for the second run, and Amaia Agre’s RBI single three batters later scored Van Zee to make it 3-0. Faith Kacmarynski followed that up with a two RBI double to push the advantage to 5-0, and Brynn Roozeboom singled her home two batters later. Jessa De Vries added onto the lead with Pella Christian’s fifth RBI single of the inning to score Chloe Snyder, before Brynn scored on a passed ball, and Van Zee recorded her second RBI single of the inning to make it 9-0. Addison Bandstra added the final blow of the inning for the Eagles, blasting a double to center field to score De Vries and Van Zee.

Pella Christian added their 12th run of the game on a De Vries’ RBI single in the third inning, before tacking on two more runs in the fourth inning on an error and a fielder’s choice to end the game via the run-rule.

The win was the Eagles’ first Little Hawkeye Conference victory since defeating Oskaloosa in June of 2023, and also marked the beginning of a turnaround for the program. Coming off a 1-20 season in 2024 and starting 2025 1-7, Pella Christian used the win to finish the summer on a 13-11 run.
