Claiming the number ten spot for the Pleasantville top sports stories of the 2024-2025 school year is the football team finishing 6-2 and second in their district.

In the regular season the Trojans had wins against Woodward-Granger, Lynnville-Sully, Pella Christian, EBF, Colfax-Mingo, and Cardinal with their only losses coming against Interstate 35 and Sigourney-Keota

The Trojans earned a two seed in playoffs but drew a tough 7-1 Iowa City Regina team in the opening round of the postseason. Pleasantville fell to the Regals 32-21 in a competitive game that slipped away at the end. Despite the first round exit, there is much to be excited about if you are a Trojans fan. Pleasantville just graduated four seniors and their top offensive and defensive performers in every stat category will be returning this coming season.

Among those returning is starting quarterback Braylon Bingham who led Class 1A in passing touchdowns with 23, was second in total touchdowns with 32, and was third in Class 1A for passing yards with 1,749. The Trojans will also bring back leading rusher JJ Phillips who is a junior, leading receiver in sophomore Brayden Kennedy who is a junior, and leading tackler in Bingham. After last season, head coach Mack Jorth says he is excited about the future of the program as they will bring back almost everybody.

“I think excitement is almost an understatement. We are obviously very thrilled to see what the future holds for us. We talk about Bingham and he’s always one that gets talked about but I think another value of our offense is we have a lot of really good playmakers around Braylon as well and a lot of those guys got a lot of good action this year a lot of good development this year and I just can’t wait to see what they do next year.”

The Trojans will open their 2025 season on the road at Lynnville-Sully on August 29th.
