Hot and humid conditions continue today for those in south central to southern Iowa, with heat index values near to and at times, in excess of 105 degrees expected. A heat advisory is in place. Conditions will not be quite as hot for areas further north. Temperatures return to more seasonal values mid-week and cool off during the end of the week. Anyone outdoors today should take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the heat, including limiting time outdoors, taking frequent breaks in the A/C or shade, and drinking plenty of water, even when not thirsty. Additional chances for thunderstorms and heavy rain return throughout much of Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service, before much more mild conditions settle into the region.
