The City of Baxter is starting what city staff believes will be approximately nine days of street repair on over a dozen city blocks. The project includes South High Street, which is the main north and south street through town. Portions of Independence Street between West Rippey and West Watson Avenue, Southwest Avenue between West Station to just past West State Street, and Railroad Street are also included in the project. Milling, which is grinding off the top layer of the current asphalt, is expected to take approximately two days, and another seven days has been projected for laying down two layers of new asphalt totaling five inches, weather permitting. While the street work is underway, the City of Baxter says vehicles left in areas temporarily designated with “No Parking” signs will be towed at the owner’s expense to prevent project delays. The city also asks residents to place their Midwest Sanitation bins in an accessible right-of-way, ideally on the opposite side of the street from the construction, to ensure pick-up can still occur.
