The Jasper County Fair was held in Colfax last week, and one of the newest members of the Fair Board was surprised about all the planning that goes into it. Secretary Morgan De Haai represents Hickory Grove Township on the Fair Board, and is a past 4-H member who’s been on the Fair Board for two years. De Haai says that she has loved her time on the board, but was surprised by the yearlong effort that goes into holding the fair.

“I did not have any idea and could not fathom how much work goes into the fair before you show up with your animals. We do monthly or weekly work nights to try and get a little bit closer, and then we really push hard at the end of June and beginning of July to get everything just right for the fair.”

There is one Fair Board member for each of Jasper County’s 20 townships, plus two at-large members. The Fair Board will hold the 171st Jasper County Fair on the fairgrounds in Colfax next July.
