The #8 moment on our countdown of top sports moments from Newton High School during the 2024-2025 school year takes us back to November 1st, when Cardinals freshman Audrey Muckler ran as an individual in the Class 3A State Girls Cross Country Meet in Fort Dodge. 

Muckler qualified for the State Meet by running a personal record of 20:06.4 and placing 14th at the State Qualifying meet in Pella on October 23rd. The freshman was the top finisher for the Newton girls in every cross country meet during the season, and had several top ten finishes. Overall, Muckler felt her freshman season was a success.

“I’ve cut a lot of time since my first meet to my last meet. You can see the difference between my time drops, and I’ve just become much tougher.”

Muckler finished 61st out of the 100 state meet qualifiers, completing the race in 20:15.1
