The Knoxville Police Department reminds citizens and those coming to the area during the Knoxville Nationals that golf carts are not to be driven on sidewalks.
The 360 Knoxville Nationals start today and the Nos Energy Drink 410 Knoxville Nationals start next Wednesday. That brings an influx of thousands of people into the community. Golf carts also can only be driven sun up to sun down and are not allowed to travel along Highway 14. In addition, golf carts need to have a city issued permit to be driven on Knoxville streets. Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller says golf carts are an issue every year during this time.
“We get complaints everyday of Nationals, every year multiple times from locals and from race fans about golf carts being on sidewalks. Golf carts, some of them will move off the sidewalks for pedestrians on foot to come through but some don’t. They just think they have the right of way because they’re a gold cart, you don’t.”
Fuller also reminds everyone to never operate a golf cart after consuming alcohol. Hear from Fuller about Nationals safety on an upcoming two-part Let’s Talk Knoxville.
