We continue our countdown in the best sports moments for Knoxville and today we are at #7. The scene is Williamsburg High School on February 15th at the class 2A wrestling district. In 2024, Regan Roberts missed out on the State Meet due to a criteria rule when he lost in the semifinals, but was unable to wrestle back due to the wrestler that beat him losing in the 1st place match. In 2025, Roberts was determined not to let that happen and he qualified for his first State Tournament as a district champion. He seemed to roll through his weight class until he met Trenton Davies of Williamsburg. The match went to multiple overtimes until Roberts got an escape in sudden victory overtime to clinch his spot at State. Roberts told KNIA/KRLS he did not want a repeat of the previous year.

Roberts: “I knew that I wanted to be the guy to control my own destiny. Last year I lost to a stud in the semi-finals and he lost in the finals and I didn’t get to show what I could do, and this year I went into this thinking I don’t want that to happen again and to control my own destiny.”

Roberts received a 1st round bye but had to face Davies again, losing in a 2nd round bout 4-1. He won his 2nd round consolation but fell in a 3rd round consolation to end his state tournament. Roberts will be a senior this season with a goal of getting back to the State Tournament.
