
A Des Moines man is in the Jasper County Jail facing sixteen charges from an online child exploitation investigation. According to Newton Police, 43-year-old Matthew Mark Powell was engaged in online communication of a sexual nature with a Newton Police Detective posing as a minor. Captain Chris Wing with the Newton Police Department says the correspondence took place for several months, before Powell’s arrest this past Wednesday. Powell is charged with four class B felony counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, one count each of class D felonies Grooming and Enticing a Minor Under Sixteen for a Sexual purpose, and ten aggravated misdemeanor counts of Telephone Dissemination of Obscene Material to a Minor. Powell is being held in the Jasper County Jail on $190,000 bond, with a court appearance scheduled for August 11th.
