Claiming the number five spot for the PCM top sports stories of the 2024-2025 school year is the PCM boys golf team qualifying for state and finishing fourth.

The PCM boys golf team brought home hardware from the Class 2A State Golf Tournament in Waterloo earning medals for a fourth place finish in the team standings. The Mustangs qualified for state after finishing second at Bos Landen Golf Course in Pella at their district meet. This was also a special season for the Mustangs as it would be coach Collin Harrison’s last season.

At the state meet, the Mustangs finished the two-day tourney with a team score of 319-320–639, which edged fifth place East Marshall by two strokes. Second-ranked Columbus Catholic secured the 2A Championship on their home course, finishing the meet at 302-298–600. PCM was led in the tournament by senior Jeffery McDanel, who finished in a three-way tie for eighth place with a 75-75–150, but was officially scored in 10th place on the card-back tiebreaker. Senior Easton Van Veen and junior Charlie Ford both finished as part of a five-way tie for 34th place, with Van Veen shooting a 78-85–163 and Ford recording an 82-81–163. Senior Pete Kiernan recorded the second lowest round for the Mustangs on the tournament’s second day, finishing with an 86-79–165 to tie for 41st place and complete the team scoring. Wrapping up the lineup for PCM was Tate Tangeman with an 84-86–170 and Parker DeHaai with a 91-87–178. McDanel said it was a great feeling to see all of the Mustangs’ hard work be recognized with the fourth place finish.

“It means a lot to me and everybody that’s with us, parents and supporters. It just feels good because we worked for it all year, and it’s nice to see the results pay off.”

PCM will graduate six seniors from the program in McDanel, Van Veen, Tangeman, Kiernan, Kaleb DeVries, and Finn Wilson.
