Central MBB Senior Joshua Van Gorp (Left) became the all-time leading scorer in Central men's basketball history Saturday, surpassing Colby Taylor (Right) with 1,859 points in his career.

The #4 moment on our countdown of the top 10 sports stories from the 2024-2025 school year at Central College saw Dutch men’s basketball post Joshua Van Gorp become the most prolific scorer in program history.

Van Gorp, who had already broken the school record for points in a single game in 2024, bested that mark again in a February 1st meeting against Coe College. The fifth-year senior shot a staggering 26-36 from the field in the contest, including a layup that resulted in a three-point play, to score 55 points in a 75-73 win on Bradley Curren’s last second layup with 1.4 seconds to play.

Two weeks later in P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium on February 15th, Van Gorp added a new record to his resume, becoming the all-time scorer leading in Central College men’s basketball history. Van Gorp scored 16 points in a 78-67 loss to Dubuque, surpassing Colby Taylor’s mark of 1,856 career points from 2013-2017. Van Gorp finished his career with 1,991 points, and had yet another remarkable scoring game later in the season, but more on that later on in the countdown.
