Three of Jasper County’s more traveled county roads will be getting road surface improvements next summer. On Tuesday, the Jasper County Board of Supervisors approved a low bid of $902,232 for seal coat work on Highway S-74 from Newton to Reasnor, Highway T-38 North from U.S. Highway 6 East to the Marshall County Line, and Image Avenue from North 27th Avenue East to Kellogg’s City Limits. The 17 miles of pavement maintenance will be done by Asphalt Surface Technologies Incorporated of St. Cloud Minnesota. Their quote was lower than two other bids. County Engineer Mike Frietsch estimated the cost at $875,000.
“We looked at all the individual numbers, they are good. We don’t have any concerns. They are pre-qualified in the Department of Transportation system. From looking at their website, they look like they are a capable company.”
The work contract was put out for bid by the Iowa Department of Transportation. Frietsch says that requires the county to accept the low bid or rebid the project. He expects the seal coat work on these three county roads to occur in July of next year, and the company has 35 working days to complete it.
