We have reached the #3 moment for Knoxville in our top ten countdown of sports moments and today takes us to our first of three Panther teams to qualify for a State Tournament. The Knoxville Boys Golf program has been a mark of consistency for five straight seasons as this year, while suffering losses of some great players the season before, Knoxville found a way to earn its way to the class 3A State Meet at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls. While the Panthers state meet was not what they planned on with an 11th place finish, they kept their string going. Both Grant Gerdes and Luke Roozeboom told KNIA/KRLS Sports after the first day at State what they needed to do to improve their scores.

Grant: Keep the ball in front of me and in the fairway. Aim for the middle of the green and two putt or one putt to get on to the next green.”
Luke: “Definitely going for the middle of the green. My driver was a little erratic today. I didn’t give myself a lot of chances to score and keeping myself allowed to score is going to be big in the next round.”

The Panthers trimmed ten strokes off of their score after day one. Knoxville will look forward to getting back to state for a sixth straight season this spring.
