The lengthy process of updating Jasper County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan is going to begin. On Tuesday, the Jasper County Board of Supervisors agreed to contribute $6,000 toward the expected $40,000 cost for the update. The current 2022 to 2027 plan was approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in March of 2023. Jasper County Emergency Management Director Jamey Robinson told the Board of Supervisors federal funds are available to offset the cost of the update, and he’s not sure how long that assistance will be available.

“We don’t know where those are going to go in the next year or two. I just thought it would be a good time to jump on this and start the ball rolling on getting this plan updated. This plan opens up the doors for every community/municipality in Jasper County to apply for different grants that are available. Of course those could all change as well.”

According to Robinson, his agency currently has grant requests for warning sirens that will be installed throughout the county, and a generator for the City of Colfax. He adds that updating Jasper County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan will take between eighteen months to two years.
