United States Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks visited Knoxville Hospital and Clinics (KHC) on Wednesday as part of a private discussion.

Among those in attendance were Iowa Department of Health and Human Services Director Kelly Garcia, KHC CEO Kevin Kincaid, State Medical Director Dr. Robert Kruse, and several others from a variety of healthcare organizations in the state. Miller-Meeks stated after the discussion that the purpose was talking about changes to Medicaid and the Rural Healthcare Transformation Fund. Concerns statewide have been prevalent about how the Big Beautiful Bill that was passed on July 4th could impact those on Medicaid and rural hospitals throughout the country. Miller-Meeks says she believes it is important to get feedback from local hospitals that are a part of the Rural Healthcare Transformation Fund.

“While we’re waiting for guidance we think it is important within our state given the work Iowa has already done on rural healthcare, on healthcare transformation, the innovation they’ve had, to get input from our hospitals and from clinics that are in part of this fund so we can provide that feedback back to CMS before they actually issue guidance and make rules.”

Miller-Meeks was among those in the US House of Representatives that voted in favor of The Big Beautiful Bill.
