The Newton School Board Monday night will consider taking the next step towards installing new ADA-accessible bleachers with handrails and wider aisles on the visitors’ side of H.A. Lynn Stadium. This is being considered to provide ADA seating at the facility. A proposal to put the project out for bid is on the agenda. Last September, longtime Cardinal football fan Tom Hollander complained to the Newton school board about the lack of handrails on the steps at the stadium. He said he’s brought this up to board members in letters and emails since September 2022.
“During that time, the school district has made improvements at the football field, including a new surface and scoreboard. A new Berg Middle School track with ADA-approved bleachers has been put in along with new softball and baseball diamonds with ADA-approved bleachers. The ADA Act was approved in 1990. That was 34 years ago.”
At the end of April, the Newton School Board approved the design and development plans for the new ADA-accessible bleachers at a projected cost of $733,000. The proposed installation timeline is from December through next June.
Monday night’s Newton School Board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the EJH Beard Administration Center at 1302 First Avenue West.
