This week, members of the Newton Police and Fire Department will be showing 5th through 8th graders what it’s like to work as a police officer, firefighter, or paramedic. The two departments are holding a free Youth Police and Fire Academy. The kids attending will learn about physical fitness standards for police officers and firefighters, process a mock crime scene, practice traffic stops and search and rescues, use a fire extinguisher, and learn basic first aid.
