A felony drug charge filed against a Newton man late last month for the alleged possession of .1 grams of marijuana has been dismissed as part of a plea agreement. Assistant Jasper County District Attorney Nicholas Pietrack filed the motion for dismissal of the class D felony charge against 35-year-old Alexander Gaylord Brunker, after Brunker pleaded guilty to a simple misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. District Court Judge Terry Rickers sentenced Brunker to ten days in jail with credit for time served, and fined him $105. Newton Police say a reckless driving complaint led to Brunker’s vehicle being stopped on July 21st. It was then searched after the arresting officer detected an odor of marijuana. The .1 grams of marijuana was reportedly discovered in a grinder recovered from Brunker’s vehicle. The Newton man has two prior drug convictions in Polk County from October 2015 and January 2016.
