The bids for installing new ADA-accessible bleachers with handrails and wider aisles on the visitors side of H.A. Lynn Stadium in Newton are due in three weeks. The Newton School Board will then consider those quotes during their September 8th board meeting, which is four days after the bids are open. The expected cost of the 1,030-plus seat bleachers is expected to be close to $800,000, but Superintendent Tom Messenger says adding ADA-accessible seating at H.A. Lynn Stadium is something that has to be done. 

“With putting these numbers together, it does come out to be something that is a significant expense to the district. Recognizing that we have to do something, it’s really a high priority of ours.”

The proposed installation timeline for the new bleachers is this December through next June, which would impact the track and soccer seasons.
