A Newton man accused of having online sexual communications with an officer posing as an underage girl is facing two class D felony charges. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says 21-year-old Ryan Andrew Hammen is being held on a $10,300 bond for grooming and enticing a minor under 16 for a sexual purpose. Those charges were filed by the Newton Police Department after Hammen’s arrest on Wednesday afternoon. Newton Police Captain Chris Wing says an investigation was initiated after Hammen began communicating with an officer posing as a 15-year-old girl on Snapchat. According to Wing, the communication between Hammen and the officer was of a sexual nature, and Hammen allegedly requested they meet. Court documents show a preliminary hearing in this case is set for Monday.
