
The Pella Christian girls tennis team got out to the second consecutive 2-0 start to a year on Thursday, defeating Knoxville 7-2 on the road.
At the top of the singles lineup, Ava Breems earned a hard fought 7-5, 6-3 victory at #1 singles, while Lexi Branderhorst added a victory at #2 singles by injury default. Kate Braafhart and Elsa Breems cruised to wins in the #5 and #6 spots in the singles lineup, with Braafhart winning 6-0, 6-0 and Elsa winning 6-1, 6-3. Needing just one more singles victory to secure the match, Trinley Gibson outlasted her opponent at #3 singles in a super-tiebreaker to take the contest 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 and give the Eagles another 2-0 start to the year. In doubles play, Gibson and Chloe Nikkel won a super-tiebreaker 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 at #2, while Braafhart and Elsa Breems added a victory at #3 by injury default to give Pella Christian the 7-2 win.
The Eagles girls tennis team returns to action on Monday, kicking off conference play at home against Dallas Center-Grimes at 4:15 pm.
