Newton’s Maytag Pool will be closed for the season after the traditional Dog Swim this evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission for that event is $6 per dog and handler, and a waiver form must be signed. Only dogs swim, and one handler 16 or older is allowed in the pool per dog. There is seating for spectators in the pool pavilion, and plenty of standing room for viewing outside the pool’s fencing. The City of Newton’s Parks Operations Assistant, Jamie Murphy, says the new amenities added to the pool after last season were well-received.

“The new playground feature has been really popular, and kids seem to really like the zipline. We are really pleased with our new diving board stand. That has increased our safety immensely, so that’s been a good addition to.”

Newton’s Maytag Pool opened this season on Sunday, June 1st. The opening was pushed back one day to complete lifeguard training, which had been delayed due to water temperatures and the weather.
